Perhaps I misunderstand your intentions then. Explain to me why you posted "We have been attempting to influence opinions in Russia and it's allies and they have been trying to influence ours dating back to at least the cold war" if not a blatant attempt to marginalize concern over the "war of information?" Catholic newspapers should seek those thing but more; they should seek the true good and holiness of each reader, and our true and full good necessarily involves the soul. So where does that leave us? No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Made 50% on my small investment, within three hours. A quick in and out, a "hit and run". Google DCTH yourself, and see how much that stock moved up during that one day, and how quickly it stagnated. Alaska's legislature has clearly signaled that it's "every person for themselves" now ... and I'm simply going where they have pointed me. I'm in good company, as mine isn't the only money flowing out of Alaska now. All for none, and none for all! The new Alaska. Get used to it because that's how it will be for a while. Only thing left is for TAPS to get shut down, either by the oilies, or some natural disaster. If it happens, we have no slack whatsoever. If it happens, we will be standing on the corner, in Washington DC, begging, with our "Didn't think it would happen to us this soon" sign. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

While they run around and accuse those that criticize Islam with racism, with each new attack, each child killed in the name of Islam, drives more people to the right. Can I put you in prison forever on trumped up charges just because I feel like it to prove a point? The problem with stratifying rights is that the line can be redrawn for selfish purposes. Everyone else's definition of 'earned' is not the same as yours. We have rights because some things we deem essential for life in our country. If you don't believe in that then I suggest you move to a country where you have no rights and then I can tell you 'I told you so' when you start complaining your life is in danger. My parents weren't quite so sure about all of this and allowed me to have a lot of protestant friends. So far none of us have gone to hell for 'too close association' with protestant heretics or Catholic papists. The truth is, some protestant sects weren't much better about this kind of thing than Catholics. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

The legislative time piece needs rewinding and some legislators need to focus on their priorities, which seem to conflict with the priorities of the state. Legislators borrow, beg and spend money telling you why they are so great and why the other guy or gal isn't so great. Then they complain about the time in Juneau, while failing to accomplish their minimum duty. A operations and capital budget. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Mr. Balsillie should step in the battle and stir the pot aggressively to wake up those passive politicians we elected to represent our interests. He can afford it because he walked away with billions from Blackberry and left a huge dent in the "K-W" economy. While APPLE and Samsung were fighting for market share in the mobile industry Mr. Balsillie was busy trying to purchase a hockey team in US not seeing two steps ahead for guard the Blackberry interests. With an MBA from Harvard and so much know how Mr.Balsillie can really help and make a difference. At this point little startups are trying to reinvigorate the local economy and employ the massive spill over from Blackberry who was a 15,000 employee shop at one time and kept Waterloo in the top 10 smartest cities in the world. "WE" the middle class are busy working hard to pay mortgages, help kids with money to get education so they don't end up with $60k-70k in debts and no place to work after graduating. Nice understatement of how the LNG terminal seems to the people most strongly invested in the continued health of the entire northern coastal sockeye salmon fishery of British Columbia, the one that allowed First Nations of BC to skip developing agriculture or domestication of kine because of the lean protein and Omega-3 fatty acids that the human nervous system feeds best upon. The same stock that returns run-off nutrients to the mountains, that does not require a disaster to be destroyed by the LNG terminal, just the constant traffic, noise, light and impact upon what amounts to being the Skeena sockeye salmon fishery's most popular day care facility. Environmentalists, chiefs, and scientists MIGHT know something, eh? No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

The obvious read across is political. The UK's exit has reignited Scotland's bid for independence while in Spain the Catalan contingent is once again making noises on this front. One may assume these will only grow louder. While polls suggest Quebec separatism is on the wane, especially after the uninspiring spectacle Marois and Peladeau provided, one should not assume it will always remain so. Politics is more fluid than ever and Quebec has its own long standing populist tradition that could find expression in future polls. Brexit may yet be the source of significant upheaval beyond UK shores. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Trudeau is engaging in shameless class warfare in an cynical attempt to squeeze the NDP on the left - the tax changes amount to a drop in the bucket compared to Trudeau's bloated program spending - the Liberals are wasting $30 billion a year in borrowed money with absolutely nothing to show for it. Now we get the peanut gallery of Trudeau's government union base jumping on the anti-business bandwagon in attacking Canadians who actually create value for a living while they work in cushy government jobs where it's virtually impossible to be fired. Trudeau is raising taxes while the US is about to do the opposite. Trudeau is hurting Canada's resource industries with job killing red tape in deference to career activists like Tides while the US does the opposite. Canada is gaining a global reputation for uncompetitiveness with government intervention and high taxes at every level of government. We deserve what comes next. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

When you attempt to describe "money" as the "sum total of all outstanding promises of repayment", then that is the very definition of "debt" or, as J.P. Morgan put it "credit". If you - or a country - own and hold physical gold, there is NO counter-party risk. You're not holding anybody's "promise to repay". In wartime, a "promise to repay" depends upon YOU winning the war - surviving intact to service the debt. Uncertain, at best. When the next BIG war happens - and it will, soon I fear - then all of the carrots, and aluminum ingots and horses you may have will buy virtually nothing in terms of international trade. Whoever holds the gold, will make the rules. And - sadly for us, since we sold ALL of our gold - the Chinese & Russians will be making the new rules. I don't think that we're going to like that very much... No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Sure the wealthy have more disposable income to invest, but this could also affect a portion of the middle class who have no pension and have worked hard to save and invest, or seniors who are drawing from their own investments. Higher investment taxes could also discourage investment and ultimately job creation in Canadian companies. If the Liberals are serious about waiting to see how much U.S. taxes are reduced, then they should absolutely take higher investment taxes off the table. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked
