The main purpose of Christian missions and missionaries is to spread a particular religious schism…often using young people such as your “St. John United Methodist Church mission trip to South Africa at the end of May.” I’ve had first-hand experience with missionaries when I worked on Indian lands in Arizona. Missionary activities both “short-term” and long-term…can, and are often intended, to destroy families, communities and culture. Missionaries pick on cultures already rendered weak and dispossessed by military and/or economic dominance. Mr. Thompson also pointed out the absurdity and evil of other Christians directly missionizing Russian Orthodox (read: Native) adherents. Called “stealing sheep.” | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

They graduated 16 and 13 years ago - but I am still unhappy that one lost over three weeks of class in her senior year due to a school funding shortfall. The politics in that area are odd - evidenced by the history of legislators elected out there who tend to run the gamut from conservative Republicans to liberal Democrats. I have not lived in Hillsboro for eight years now but still have many friends there. Guess I am disappointed that four Board members, all male, do not appear to consider the opinion of three female Board members. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

Come on Mr. Apo, you got to deal with the exact nature of the long line fishery. Goodness, show me an Hawaiian in the fishery. Show me a Hawaiian that has a long line permit. You are only a talking head for the HLA. Ask Ritte, Harp, Aila, Thompson and Uncle Buzzy (deceased) what they think of your article. Ask the people of Hawaii what they think of your relationship to the Howard Hughes Corporation and the developers. Bradaah, you may get one big surprise. The truth is did any of the votes get changed after people voted? Did the Russians alter any votes? If you are going to say they might have influenced people then take a look at Americas media attempt to influance people. ADN is the perfect example, (one of many) of a biased news group who prints only negative articles about Trump or anyone against their agenda, both side do it. We would be having re-elections forever. If after the vote has been submitted and then altered I can see an issue but there is no proof this happened. If you are that weak minded to let them sway your decision maybe you should not vote( or listen to a used car sells man either!) The losers are just digging for anything they can after their TRUMP THUMPING. Everyone know this and it will be an embarrassment( yet another one) in Americas history for the Dems. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

This is not a man who can be reached by an appeal to reason, but rather works from a base of personal self-interest. The $1500 donor limit or the fact that a "Liberal" made it? Yeah, your silence on this for the past decade shows your hypocrisy. You newfound critics of donor limits are fooling nobody. I've been consistently on the side of eliminating tax credits for political donations (since political parties are NOT charities) and for fixed funding of our elections. I'm guessing you cheered when the per-vote subsidy elimination was announced and you ate up the so called reasoning (that taxpayers should not fund political parties) hook line and sinker. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

If global warming is actually happening and inevitable, then there's nothing we can do about it. Mr. Fletcher's demand for PSAs on global warming is like Henny Penny pushing PSAs to warn that the sky is falling, or some fringe religious groups demanding PSAs that "the end [of the world] is near" and "Jesus is coming." A PSA is not "sponsored" -- it's paid for as a donation of on-air time by a broadcaster, in the public interest, perhaps to satisfy a requirement imposed by the FCC that a broadcast license requires some on-air time be devoted to public forums and announcements "pro bono" (free and for the benefit of the public). The purpose of a PSA is to inform the public about something important that people are not yet aware of. For example: "Time to get your flu shot." PSAs should not be used for political propaganda. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

Canada in no way caused Khadr's plight. It was caused by his own family. In fact, if he had been brought in as a minor he would have been back with his family and would have never been liberated. Even he himself in his recent (7/7)interview with CBC, did admit to his teenager's frog in the well worldview. He had paid his dues for his errors, induced or otherwise, and the court system addressed Canada's due to him. He does appears to be a very matured in his thinking. There is rule of law in Canada and he correctly argued it through the court and the system arrived at a solution. It is unnecessary to harp on Canada. The system worked. One can be certain that in a repeat of a similar situation, Canada will likely to react no differently. A good society functions on rights and obligations; not rights alone. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

In modern times it's equivalent to a fishing expedition, an attempt to find something unspecified. Robert Mueller's investigation is neither, it is focused on proving or disproving collusion, obstruction of justice, and acceptance of emoluments by Trump or his associates. There is ample reason to suspect that any of those things MIGHT have happened, hence the investigation. If as I suspect, Trump isn't seriously involved in many, most, or all of those things, then the investigation will vindicate him, just as James Comey's FBI investigation vindicated Hillary Clinton of specific indictable offenses. Trump, who usually enjoys the spotlight on him, doesn't welcome this attention. He should welcome this as a chance to prove his innocence, and if I were he, I would smile and tell the public exactly that. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

They also hunt and eat meat - are they human too? It is true, humans have been eating meat for a long time. I suspect you find that we started eating meat because it was better than the alternative - i.e. starvation. Your logic is deeply flawed. It seems to be: (1) we did something in the past, (2) therefore it must be natural for us to do it and (3) therefore, we should keep doing it. Would this logic apply more generally? How about to war? Or racial prejudice? Or how about religious persecution? The question today is not so much what kind of diet is natural for us, but what kind of diet is going to most strongly contribute to human flourishing. I think one has to acknowledge that there is a growing mountain of evidence that says, at least in terms of diet, the best path forward is a whole foods, plant-based diet. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

Moving to the MWC will make Oregon a big fish in a little pond. Over the decades MWC teams have given Oregon fits (Boise State). The MWC has quality competition. Because of the "lighter" schools in the MWC, Oregon can now schedule three Power 5 teams anywhere in the country to help recruit. The three Power 5 games + being the MWC Champion puts Oregon in contention for the CFP. Essentially an easier road than the Pac-12. Additionally, the geographic area of the MWC is much larger than the Pac-12 which offsets Oregon's demographics. Plus, going to Hawaii every other year has to be a good selling point. Additionally, if Oregon so chooses, it doesn't have to spend as much money on the football program to be a winning program. If OSU was smart, they would move also as part of a package deal. Plus, I kind of like the idea of throwing the college football world into a tizzy again. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

There's already plenty of money to provide a generous merit pay system for teachers. But the HSTA looks the other way while the DOE loots school monies for the enrichment of the two other unions. Until teachers expose this defrauding of taxpayers, the money for 'teacher raises' will never magically appear. Hawaii's overtaxed residents leave it to the HSTA to fight to redirect all education dollars to the schools. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

I was told that I could not be hired unless I was re-certified in B.C. and take their French test, which I am not willing to do. I think the shortages can be solved with more flexibility, especially for substitutes. Put me in front of any French class and watch me. If you do not think I did an excellent job then don't hire me. But if you would accept my out of province teacher's license and French certification from a major university for substitute only work, then the students of B.C. would benefit from people like me. There is no excuse to put a person whose French is not excellent in a French immersion school. It is there own inflexibility and rules that are causing the problem. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |

I'll play. How about that McEntire vision for the Economic Development Council? McEntire saw how a failed organization could be revitalized and repurposed to become the exact opposite of the crony blight on the county it was and become with the proper leadership a vibrant public/private partnership. As a letter to today's PDN describes, Ron Richards fought McEntire on that point. Ron Richards fought hard. Ron Richards went after McEntire tooth and nail. Ron Richards went to the mat. The result? Ron Richards miscalculated. He assumed that, under McEntire, the EDC would continue to limp along as the usual crony organization. So he could say, "Told you so" But Ron Richards failed badly. McEntire prevailed. Then he made it work! The EDC is now up and running as the Economic Development Corporation and, under the leadership of Randy Johnson, is widely recognized as doing great things for the Clallam County. And Ron Richards? Well. | No flag | No flag | Allow | No action | Checked |
