The believers have the better case but this fact is obscured because too many on both sides conflate weather and climate in the current debate regarding the significance of these current events. The real focus of attention should be on the deviation from historical cyclical trends since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution & the rapid acceleration of this change over the past 4 decades or so. Current events add data supporting the thesis that this accelerating change is occurring but (being essentially weather events) prove nothing in isolation. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

We’ll never know what the vote would have been, however, just as we will never know the outcome of other important issues, e.g. rail, had voters had accurate information from the start. I think what we really need is a better understanding of the budgeting process and why mandatory funding such as the .5% for the zoo is not good fiscal policy. When taxes and fees go up (or new ones created), people tend to forget all of these pet projects that limit the usage of our general fund. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

They fought the PPACA with partisan tooth and claw, and then attempted to dictate RC doctrine to all citizens under the cloak of "religious liberty". The bishops and the GOP have forever lost any claim to being pro-life when the already born are being trampled in the dust and their access to decent healthcare is in jeopardy. There is more to being pro-life than an obsessive ovum and fetus fetish. These men desperately need to climb out of their sheltered, privileged lives to get in touch with reality. As it stands, nothing has changed in how they do business. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

They both have large populations that are kept under control partially by depriving them of information regarding their governments' corruption. But the internet is changing that as more people can access more information with fewer filters. The US can help feed information to that population, which will cause them to rebel. "Better to collapse a country from within" indeed. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

There are many things I do not know about the facility, but there are a few things I do know. Firstly, all inmates are put into their own individual cells - one per person. They are all locked down in these cells for 23 hours a day (toilets and lavatories are in the cell, and meals are brought to them). They are released from their cell for one hour in every 24 (in cuffs and chains) so they may either visit a rec area outside of the building, or to take a shower and clean up. At no time are they in contact with another prisoner. Abdulmutallab has nothing more than any other inmate, nor does he have any less than others at the facility from what I've read here. I think he's tired of prison and just wants to cause trouble. Other inmates have tried similar things at Florence and failed. Finally, IMO, it's too bad that people who aren't even citizens are able to try and use our criminal justice system against us. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Both fan bases deal with the past, rehashing past glories and worshiping the crest as you point out rather than the game of hockey. It is a near cult like following for these two teams that is spread across Canada. You will see this demonstrated this evening in Ottawa with the overwhelming Blue in the stands. It is what it is. Folks have few things to cling to, so as Sam Spade said in the Maltese Falcon, "this is the stuff that dreams are made of". In the case of Habsters and Leafers the crest is the stuff. Pretty corny, eh? No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

The school hired the teacher who condoned the bashing and the school's response has been tepid at best. I agreed with the earlier comment by someone that this was little different than hanging an effigy of President Obama except for the targets. Hate activity is hate activity. When a school condones incivility to the extent of public bashing of a candidate with a stick, no matter where they fit on a political spectrum, they have overstepped their authority and the boundaries of common sense. It gives many a false sense of power and confidence they lack in real world circumstances. I have wondered why this person likes this drug while others like this drug and some mix.... Often the term self medicate comes to mind . throwing people in jail is a deterrent. It doesn't really look at serious mental health issues lying below the surface. Same as any other addiction - they won't stop until they decide they want to stop. I think there's always hope as long as you're willing to continue trying to find common ground. But don't depend on him, he'll continue doing what he's doing and I'd go so far to bet that if push came to shove, he'd show you the door. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

One that I would start with is that the word "will" in the heading should be changed to "could" or "might". That, in my opinion would be more appropriate because dividend or income investors would also be in stocks additional to REITs. Because we are using "loose estimates and assumptions", if we go with that; let assume that if the US Fed. raises rates, that Mortgages would begin to rise and as a result, rents would also rise, (I don't think that real estate owners who rent out properties are in the charity business). I assume that rents and REITs would keep up with rising interest rates, at least that's what most analysts are saying and dividends would adjust accordingly. Meanwhile, banks, pipelines, utilities, would continue to pay distributions to those of us who indulge and profit. Other more knowledgeable posters than I, have shared similar thoughts. The self-pitying ones with their myriad complaints would have you believe that Canada is a dreadful place to live -- why they haven't left for their perfect foreign paradise is a mystery -- when by any relative standard it remains a refuge of stability in a chaotic world, its ongoing issues not likely to be solved by endless griping from anonymous online cranks.
