The players picked the wrong way and the wrong time to protest. Most people in this country are decent and some of us were fortunate enough to be a able to serve the country. We don't want to see the disrespectful way the players protest. The message is lost because of the way they are doing it. Ive been a die hard football fan all my life until this ignorant protest started. Now I refuse to watch. As long as this protest is tolerated I will be doing something else on Sundays. Lisa always talks about 'defending the process' even if the outcome might be unpopular. Yet she sidesteps the Constitutionally defined 'process' when it comes to meeting with a SCOTUS nominee. Remember Gov Waihee's attempt to provide low income housing out in rural camps? Big failure because the housing wasn't located close to city and state services needed by low-income people. The best place for low income is near a lot of government offices like in town. And I wonder why the city and the state have never gotten together and re-organized the DOE night school program with the City Rec program and the UH non-credit program? We could call this Community Education and located it at some school with a lot of land. For example Aiea high school and the Aiea Rec Center are adjacent to two major city parks. This gives Aiea High School ample space for sports programs including the swimming pool at the rec center. I've often wondered why the city and the state and the UH could not get together and provide a 24 hour staff support for operating the high school and the rec center facilities. Way back "in the day" the valedictorian was determined by the faculty and it involved a whole lot more than just gpa. Character was a huge part of it. In my graduating class (not quite 50 years ago), the highest GPA belonged to a person NOT named as valedictorian because there's more to it than just accumulating top grades - and absolutely no one thought it should be otherwise. If the teacher compensation package is $100,000 (avg), where is the other $137,500 going? For comparison, Utah spends $6,500 per pupil year with comparable scholastic achievement (if not better). Why does it cost 46% more to educate Oregon kids than it does for Utah kids? ($6500 x 146% = $9500) IDEA - Contract Oregon education out to Utah. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

I’m not a psychiatrist and don’t suggest I offer anything beyond a layperson’s impression. However, based on his demonstrated actions and comments, Gary Crum, if subjected to a clinical diagnosis, would likely be determined to be a bigot. Review his letters to the editor and his guest opinion pieces. Most contain nasty criticism of anyone who disagrees with his PC ideology and leftwing narrative. You will also see a lengthy history of political bias involving a deep hatred for the GOP and conservatives in general. Do a google search and decide for yourself. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

If anything, the tax should be eliminated completely after an investment is held for X number of years. If you hold a stock or piece of real estate for 20 years, any potential "gain" you get would mostly be eaten by inflation anyway. We should be encouraging long term investing, by eliminating capital gains for anything held for 20 or more years. Then, there could be a sliding scale up to 50% (where capital gains taxes are now). We should only consider taxing at a higher rate for investments that are "flipped" after a short period. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

I don't see much if any improvement in Siemian...the problem is I don't see much improvement in the line so everything he does is still under pressure. Same line...same Siemain. Goff was considered a bust for awhile. But here is the difference. When Goff was handed the job he kept it and never looked back. He inspired a new coaching staff to dump Kase Keenum and keep him as the starter. Paxton Lynch has not come close to doing anything even close to that. When Siemian was injured and the Broncos played Lynch, he couldn't hold onto the gig and Siemian had to play even when he less than 100%. His 2nd year with a new coaching staff he was again handily beaten out by the incumbent. I think the comparisons to Goff are unwarranted. Goff had a slow start but now is firmly in control. Lynch? He might not even have his job as a second stringer firmly in his grasp. If Siemian doesn't show improvement the Broncos are in trouble because there is nothing on the bench. Where was the public option or single payer? Our media is still in denial about Republicans. They have no intention of any cooperation as their base has convinced themselves that cooperation is wrong and they also don't believe that the federal government has any role in providing and improving health care access for Americans. Every plan they have put forward has made health care worse for millions of Americans, that's not an accident. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

A license from a cit…That is "your" (questionable) interpretation of the anti discrimination "law", but it is NOT the prima facie 1st amendment right. A license from a city is only in order for the City to Control sales tax and determine if a business is "legal" (not in violation of state and city health regs, fire regs or engaged in criminal activity). The baker is in business to make cakes and using his artistry. No one FORCES the gays to come into his shop and demand a particular decoration on his cake. A catholic bookstore is not forced to carry atheist books or jewish books or muslim books-why should a baker be forced to decorate any cake for any reason? It is NOT a necessity to have a wedding cake, nor is a wedding cake a necessity of LIFE, HEALTH, nor should/can anyone be forced into a personal services contract. A city or state "business license" does not give government control over the individual owners or their "religious" beliefs or business activities. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Apart from the practical considerations, my awareness of the essential nature of Judaism resists the idea of a Jewish state with borders, an army, and a measure of temporal power no matter how modest. I am afraid of the inner damage Judaism will sustain – especially from the development of a narrow nationalism within our own ranks, against which we have already had to fight without a Jewish state." A great genius that foretold of the catastrophe to come. It is too bad he turned down the offer to become the leader of Israel and instead was disgusted and referred to them as fascists. If the Tories are willing to wait through another Trudeau win, then they can pick a Reform candidate and wait for voter fatigue. Harper was able to succeed because support was split fairly evenly between the NDP and Liberals, but right now the NDP is not a contender. That points towards Chong, who seems the most viable candidate on the Red Tory side. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Jim Minnery's commentary is all about HIS religious beliefs and that of his political group, Alaska Family Whatever. The problem with Jim is that he doesn't want justice, he wants a specific interpretation of justice based on his religion. The FRANK initiative was viewed in Anchorage in those days as being responsible for spawning ridiculously exaggerated cost estimates which could then be used to circumvent the 1974/76 results. Obviously, it worked, as I don't see a capitol building anywhere when I drive through Willow. One pundit maintained that the capital could be moved for $139. When met by skeptical ears and questioned, he explained: "It's real simple. You go down to the hardware store, you buy a chain saw, you hand it to your legislator and say 'Here, get to work'". Odeh did not state on her application that she was convicted in 1970 for two bombings in Jerusalem that resulted in the deaths of two people, and hence was tried for immigration fraud. Some of those choices are made easily by those whose mind and body are functioning well and live in a peaceful and non-threatening atmosphere. Those are the easy choices. Others, however, live in an environment where good judgment is lacking, violence surrounds them, judgment is blinded by fear, and others are in despair. I am speaking here, now, of those who commit suicide, not those who kill from lack of respect for human life. A mother whose child was killed was asked if she could forgive the person who killed her child. She said that judging him was not her burden. That it was God's burden to bear. Someone chose to pull the trigger. They will be responsible for that before God. But our job is to try to see as God sees, with Mercy rather than judgment. We enter into the mystery of being human. God is always there. We need to be there, too. Grace always opens a path to joy, love and forgiveness. A path to God. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

The Nashville labels have a studio of songwriters who churn out most of this plastic dross, producers who can replicate the sound while not in the room and pretty boy singers who are interchangeable. Austin is the crucible of the Real Deal Country and Western music and more good music is coming out of Austin, and other none-Nashville locales, than ever before. Americana/Outlaw music is where the soul of country music now resides, not on "country radio" and not on the major labels. These singer/songwriters (most write their own material) know, appreciate, and have cultivated the true spirit of C&W.
