Africa is not only the primary source of this growth, with a natality rate of 5, but is also the primary source of refugees. That's not a coincidence. Meanwhile, back home, it has been reported that some 25% of urban children live in poverty. Only 10% of government sponsored Syrian refugees have found any kind of job, let alone one that provides a sufficient income, Somewhere between 1.5 and 7.5 million jobs will disappear in the next two decades due to AI (automation). Public debt is rapidly approaching 100% of GDP, largely to support extravagant social welfare programs. A major financial crisis is developing due to rampant speculation and shady business practices in urban real estate. Etc. !! When this all blows up in our faces I don't think any refugees are going to thank Canadians for inviting them here. By the way, how are those 50,000 Ethiopians that we allowed in in the 1990s doing ? No matter how ridiculous the view ("We must abandon science it is a tool of Western oppression")? Of course stuff like that isn't really acting for the common good so your statement is really just a tautology. Perhaps the statement should be "The left has stopped acting for the common good because in many cases their pronouncements have lost all connection to reality." No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

How long have you lived in Canada? It was simply less strained back then and living off welfare or being a single parent wasn't something people took pride in. If anything the social safety net has drastically expanded since the 80's with people now expecting/demanding cradle to grave care from the government. 50 years ago Canadians and immigrants were far more self-sufficient than they are today, there was no culture of entitlement. Your life was what you made of it and it wasn't the role of the government to ensure you succeeded. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Where did you think all those coal trains coming down the Gorge were going to? California? Why? Because "China is the largest producer and consumer of coal in the world and is the largest user of coal-derived electricity, generating an estimated 90% of domestic electricity production in 2014 from coal." It tak…Shutting down railroad corridors and major commodity routes because of one accident is like "cutting one's arm off because of minor hand nail". It take three to four trucks to transport the commodities of one freight car. Thus taking the commodity off the rail will result in 55 or more tractor trailer loads. Our country's highway system is in much worse shape than its railway. Adding twice, thrice or quad volumes of truck volumes to an over taxed (capability) highway system is simply not cost effective, is its not environmentally healthy, nor are there enough highway resources available (driver shortages) newer stricker hours of service rules, tighter EPA emission requirements, and as well as many other factors. Regarding the Union Pacific reopening its facility before a thorough inspection was made, is something that it is mandated by the Department of Commerce to do. It is a "common carrier" and transporting a very wide range needed freight commodities elsewhere. John LITX No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

With a 5'9" frame, he is more suited to be a runningback or fullback. At QB he is not on any radar except for Auburn Riverside's. I have watched a few games while scouting a Federal Way Linebacker standout and seen that Mr Maletufa is more comfortable taking the snap and running the ball as his height blocks his ability to view receivers over his offensive line. This alone is hurting his not being scouted by colleges. He might be able to pursue division III or possibly Division II schools as he is going into his senior year and final football season in 2017. Had they made a formal request, and Holder or Lynch said no, then they could have gone public. The more likely explanation is that the Republicans, as with much of everything they do these days is all sound but not much else, they are good at a sound bite but thats about it. Well a sound bite and convincing a subset of the population that they are right. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

You believe that taking another country by force is OK, so long as it is Israel, the US, or any other nation, such as Russia, that has the ability to take what doesn't belong to them. How about you? Do you think that the laws preventing your neighbor to take your home and possessions are moot? Do you think it would be just fine if you took your neighbor's home and possessions at gunpoint is justifiable, if you have the power? If, for instance, your neighbor is old and crippled and can't fight back? Frankly, I would be surprised if Trump made it as president through the next four years, but given that many Americans think as you do, that might makes right, then possibly anything including the absolute worst of horrors can happen. You should not address me by my Christian name when I don't know yours. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

It's not the place for that kind of writing, so you shouldn't expect such writing. Also Paul, philosophy will never be a science. It's not even one of the specious social sciences: philosophy is one of the liberal arts. Philosophy doesn't progress and it's hardly informed by science. Philosophers are still arguing about the same things the Ancient Greeks wrote about over 2000 years ago. I know it seems like common sense to what to tell an officer especially if you mean no harm but I changed my tune when a DPD lieutenant explained his thoughts. His came down to he already assumes everyone is armed and wants to kill him so you announcing you have a gun only stands to escalate an already tense situation. It's one thing for a driver to say "I have a gun inside my right hip waistband" to the officer standing at his window but what does the rookie officer approaching on the passenger side hear? The whole conversation or just the words "I have a gun"? I can see both sides so truly just interested in your perspective especially as LE. I also agree that all CCW classes should invite an officer to speak on this subject, mine did and it was great to be able to ask questions of him. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

Just remember or check history, Congress makes the laws not POTUS, and Congress has done nothing to deal with the issue since 2001. They are too worried about not getting re-elected to do anything to help address the issue. My friend from Turkey who has been here since 2004 was finally grant US citizenship. But then he did it legally. (He has a wife and two kids and a great job) My daughter's Japanese "sister" who stayed with us when she was 14 is now 38 and still is trying to get to come here to become a citizen but then, she is trying to do it legally. I think she feels ISIS is a threat to Hinduism in a way that Assad is not. I also think that much like her position on gays in the military, Gabbard is more than willing to adjust her stance if she thinks it will win her an election. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

I do believe we are way over concerned about sprays on our food as without these, the bugs would make sure we have no food. Also, it is not the responsibility of business at all to support social good. They are there to compete within the rules and not try to impose their points of view on their customers. Too many people blame business rather than getting individuals to take responsibility for themselves. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked

In addition, most of the standard Republicans named are atrocious - anyone associated with the last Bush administration, the worst government in modern US history (until, quite probably, Trump) should be persona non grata. But that underlines a critical point: a huge part of the problem in the US is that the Republican Party is simply unfit to govern. The only thing it believes in is small government and low taxes. Since all the problems the US faces require higher taxes and more involved government, Trump (and the GOP in general) are doomed to fail - assuming, of course, that governing for the public good is even of concern to them. The GOP denies science, valorizes religion and is a dog whistle politics party. It is a symptom of the great deal wrong in the US. No flagNo flagAllowNo actionChecked
