And that those intent on attacking Iran had once more lied through their teeth and to their own citizens about WMD in an attempt to start another war. Mainly because their own senior military and intelligence officials refused to play along this time. You get a benefit for those taxes, Income taxes fund the general costs of running the federal government: Defense, welfare, education, etc.. In fact, income taxes subsidize about half of Medicare's cost! So, don't whine about those taxes; you get a benefit! I hate to break this to you, but your math is off. You say 54% of all personal income isn't subject to Payroll taxes, but's that's about 70% over what the the numbers show. $1.12 trillion divided by 0.153= $7,29 Trillion in income affected by payroll taxes* In 2014, those taxes were $1.023 Trillion, with $6.7 Trillion affected by payroll taxes.* Personal income (Total AGI) for 2014 was $9.77 Trillion in 2014 (the most recent year that IRS figures are available) So, about $3 Trillion, or 31.5% wasn't subject to these taxes. * Remember that SS tax stops; medicare tax keeps going. "T…For the sake of clarity Justice for Immigrants Campaign occurred during the 108th Congress that passed a bit more than 504 enacted laws in 2 years. "That was the fewest since at least 1947 and 1948, when what President Truman dubbed 'the do-nothing Congress'." They manage to pass over 900 laws. The 112th managed a bit over 200 which may be the record for doing nothing. No one could have done anything to achieve immigration reform just 3 years after 9/11 which hardened many a heart against anyone not 'made in the USA'. So, anything on immigration was DOA even as a conversation over coffee in the cloak room. A review of the USCCB program on their website was well considered, no matter how bumpy delivery at individual dioceses level it may have been. In the climate of those years. Their consistent courage in behalf of UN recognized refugees remains walking the walk even against an opposing wind. The actions of this administration = angry isolationism. When we cleaned out my parents' home, after they'd moved into the nursing home, I wound up with the cookbooks and recipe box (along with the quilting and sewing and craft "stuff"). At Mom's funeral, two of the grandkids were asking for that one particular cookie recipe that was always Mom's specialty and had become everybody's favorite. We must never underestimate the value of such a simple thing. No flag No flag Allow No action Checked

Both Conservative and Liberal governments have done a reasonable job of running the country. Deficits and debt are things that seem to upset us from time to time but are essentially meaningless in the long run. That we are leaving our children and grandchildren a pile of debt is no different from the debt left to us by our parents and grandparents. Are the Americans worried about their debt which is double per capita than ours? It's tough to find any U.S. politicians talking about it. No flag No flag Allow No action Checked

But this article said the son has not been formely charged. Meaning they havent sought to bring the information to a grand jury in order to gain an indictment and formally charge him. Many times though lane county D.A. office insists that a criminal defendent waive their right to preliminary hearing on the charge. If requested, within 7 days as permitted by law if requested by defendant or defendant's lawyer, the D.A. must get an indictment. Its unfortunate that so much ignorance is displayed by defendants during the legal process. Lawyers end to recommend waiving this, because D.A. says a plea bargin in contingent on doing so. Lawyers dont explain that, making their assistance to defendant ineffective and prejuducial . But besides that, your wanting him locked up for 30 years. Not going to happen. Because as of this news, you'll be lucky to see him get 30 days No flag No flag Allow No action Checked

I hope you find this followup to my former post, but I don't know how to manage this site! You said: To your question -- what is faith? -- I would respond that faith is the commitment to live my life, implementing the teachings of Jesus, when the world offers me many other options. To the extent that ritual and sacrament assist us in that process, they serve the purpose for which Jesus formed a community of believers. To the extent that they've become replacements for commitment and practice, they are impediments in the way of the gospel. My response is, first of all, surprise that you believe Jesus formed a community of believers. I do, too, but I don't think that is in the gospels strictly, but in the Tradition. Furthermore I believe VII's statement (I forget where just now) that God has chosen to save us as a people and not as individuals. And I completely agree with your final sentence. That's Pope Francis' view as well. No flag No flag Allow No action Checked

Then it should be easy for you to give examples of the right doing that - using violence and disruption - to shut down free speech on campus in support of your claim that the right is responsible for a third of those occurrences. Yet in all this time you haven't. After numerous requests to do so. The only reasonable conclusion is that you can't. Why is that? Is there some conspiracy to hide these violent episodes by the campus right? In the absence of some explanation for that failure it is reasonable to conclude that the reason you cannot provide examples of right wing violence to stifle free speech on campus is because it simply doesn't happen. Murder and theft are not things that have mixed benefits and dangers, they are always wrong and always dangerous. Do you think cheese should be made illegal? It clearly has benefits but it can become addictive and has serious health risks! Maybe we should try outlawing it and you'll see the "cheese mobsters" crop up overnight almost immediately. It's precisely because I want to see less murder and theft is why I think certain substances should be legalized and regulated. STOP with this "Oh you just are pro-crime" nonsense. It's a weak argument. I'd rather deal with the risks of pot, cheese, prostitution, etc out in the open rather than give a monopoly to criminals. It's naive to think that making something illegal means there will be less of it. Case in point: prohibition. These things are all easier to deal with when we remove them from the shadows.
