I have been targeted by trolls for expressing an opinion and rather than engage me on any specific points, they just made blanket insults that made gross and inaccurate assumptions about who I was and what I deserved. I have been called a 'Feminazi', for example, simply for disagreeing with Harper's decision to fire the head of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in 2008. Speculators like buybacks because they drive share price. They don't really care about the long term health of the business. There may well be cases where a buyback makes sense, but it is hard to see how borrowing to pay for them is ever good. Actually managements do say when they think their shares are overvalued. One way they do this is through a high volume of insider sales. Sometimes ethical managers just come right out and say our share price doesn't make sense.
